49 Tarriers win all-league honors this year
This was a very successful year for Charles Wright’s athletic program. Across three seasons, the Tarriers racked up eight league championships, five district titles, and two state championships. Charles Wright athletes competed at the state level in eleven different sports and nine students returned with top-three finishes. All-league honors were awarded to 49 Tarriers with seven athletes winning honors in more than one sport. If all-league golf teams had been named this year, that figure would have been well over 50.
At graduation, Athletic Director Casey Jones gave special recognition to Patrick Philley ’08, who received all-league honors in three sports. Philley played football, basketball and baseball. When he received his diploma from basketball and baseball Coach Tyler Francis, the coach hung the net from the state championship basketball game around his neck. Jones also congratulated Sam Finkleman ’08 and Marcus Berglund ’08 for leading the tennis team to back-to-back state championships in their junior and senior years.
