Rob Scotlan is known around the Charles Wright campus for his dry sense of humor and voracious appetite for literature. The eighth grade English teacher is now the author of a new CWA blog about books. “The Pages In Between” launches today with Scotlan’s first two blog entries – an introduction to his passion for reading and a review of The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.

The eighth grade class won’t be making their annual trip to Mount Saint Helens this year because the Johnson Ridge Observatory is still buried under a whole lot of snow. The Cascades have received more than 150% of the usual snow fall this year which is great for the summer water forecast and skiers, but not so good for science field trips and baseball games. The unusually poor spring weather – unusually poor even for the Pacific Northwest – threw a real curve ball at the CWA baseball team. In the month of the March they played just two full games and they’ve had a few games called due to rain in April too. None the less, the Tarriers finished the season with a 5-9 record.

Charles Wright has had some very good golf teams in the past, but even before the season began, Coach Howard Wouters predicted this boys’ team would be the best. With just one more regular-season match to play, the Tarriers are undefeated. They have faced the team expected to be their toughest competition – Chimacum – and senior Geoff Moore has shattered the school’s all-time record shooting four under par 33 at the Tacoma Country and Golf Club.
